I don't think this thing is working right. I'm hearing CRICKETS over on Nontexarkana.

To be honest, this latest incarnation of corrective eyewear fashion leaves me pretty much "meh" - way too severe for my taste and gives me flashbacks, painful ones, of my horrid first pair of cateye glasses when I was 8 and we were so poor I had to have new lenses put in the same horrible frames for several years instead of getting cool groovy little wire frame John Lennon glasses like my best friend Pam.

But that's just me I guess. Those are cuter than most and you wear them well.

~well, I'm honest anyway. Heh.

~how about, you have such pretty eyes? Is that better? *grin* You DO have pretty eyes.

~incidentally your glasses are not the classic "cat eye" like I had. Mine were the squared off tear drop shape, light blue ones. Because we all know that wearing blue glasses (or blue eyeshadow - bright baby blue) makes blue eyes look bluer. Hah.

Aww! My first pair of glasses were sort of a clear blue plastic. They werent horrific, but at the time, they werent the "cool" glasses like everyone else had. I was able to upgrade to the wire frames on the second pair. Though looking back, those were the silliest glasses (the wire frames) I ever wore because they were (compared to now) HUGE and not quite round...

I got my first pair around 8 or so too- big huge, circular, PURPLE plastic! OMG... I thought I was soooo cool. In Jr. High- they were not so cool. My family wasn't particularly poor- but being the youngest of four- all in glasses? Yeah.

At some point in there I did get silver wire-rim frames. Still huuuuuuge circles, and they've been my backup pair ever since. So my goal this time around was to get smaller lenses, and NOT ROUND! *grins* I was going more for angular- but not straight rectangular- and liked these. The revised cat-eye worked. Sadly, the wire rim/invisible rim just don't look so good on me. I'm not sure what it is about them.

And thanks. I do rather think that my eyes are two of my better features. ;)

Yeah - my friend Pam was an only child and both her parents worked (rather unusual back then) so they pretty much just got her whatever she wanted.

She had a brand new, totally the latest style, pair of glasses every year.

I had two frames total - those first blue cateyes and then some oval dark brownish ones that I think were even worse, actually, though I liked them better - up until I got contacts in the 6th grade. They were the hard ones, not even gas perm. I was SO motivated to wear contacts...in addition to reusing the old frames, my lenses were really thick and that was also back when they used to put bifocals into thick glasses for kids. (maybe they do still but I haven't seen any.) I was blind as a bat. I'm even worse now. Thank God for soft contacts!!!! And ultra thin lenses!!!

I guess its just all about perspective and experiences. I have noticed that my friends who wear them tend to be intellectual, confident, openminded and tolerant women. And I just happen to think that they flatter me - and [livejournal.com profile] jadecat as well.

So, here's to opinions! you know what they say....

My feelings on them are based purely on subjective personal experience and as such are really not a valid critique of their aesthetic value. I'm really not capable of objectivity on this one. When I was that age, the girls wearing them tended to be - like me - the awkward type with waaaay too skinny arms and legs and funny haircuts and at the age that smart did not win you the love. Boy, am I glad I never have to go back to my childhood!!! lol.

But I think Jadecat looks nice in anything.
