Ah, the weekend
Feb. 14th, 2005 12:46 pmWell, it was. Heh, Friday night was good- spent time with
frawg_angel after some last minute 'apartment pick-up' and calling to cancel game day for Saturday.
We watched "Wimbledon" and "Raising Helen" the first was much better than the second. "Raising Helen" was all right, but relied way too much on stereotypical characters. Okay, brief synopsis- Helen is a youngish Executive Assistant to a modeling agency in New York. Her older sister dies and she's left with her sister's 3 kids (much to dismay of her other sister played very well by Joan Cusack). Obviously trials and tribulations occur as a result of trying to Though I did enjoy the fact that the love interest was a Lutheran pastor. So, it had some funny bits, and overall not too bad, not something I would want to watch again.
"Wimbledon" on the other hand was wonderfully funny. Kirsten Dunst wasn't all that impressive, but Paul Bettany carried the movie admirably. Kirster, in the special features, annoyed both
frawg_angel and I by claiming that her character behaved more like a man because of her agressiveness and the way she went after goals. Hmph. Women can't be aggressive? As for the movie, Paul (whose character name I kept getting wrong) was the best.
Then Saturday- had to keep Beau sane. Was vaguely entertaining. I would be sitting on the couch, something playing on TV, to have him come out- take my hand and lead me back to the den to see his latest object of frustration. Some of them were rather obnoxious- the lecture is from a CD and the prof was writing out a problem- making a mistake in the process (ie making a slight change in the number they were to use, from 34.47 M to 34.77 M). But no major explosions or shouting, sanity was maintained. :) Though I must mention that being supportive while PMSing is not the easiest thing in the world. ;) Especially when I decided I wanted Chinese food for dinner- but the only place we had a menu for closed at 10 pm and it was 10:05 pm. Grump. If I hadn't gone grocery shopping I would have been home in time.
Sunday we took a brief break from his studies to go to the cat show at the MSU Pavilion. Was fun, got to see my favorite Mau breeder. Also got some samples of Nutro for the kitties- gave them a couple as treats and they went nuts for them! It is supposed to be a better food ( I believe that's what
mightyafrodite feeds her Magnus, and I'm not sure about the dogs...) so we may be switching (though I just bought food for them on Saturday!). Wandered around for a bit, looked at cat trees- Danger Boy! needs something he can climb without getting yelled at. All told it took about two hours.
Came home and the Beau went back to studying- and I went back to stitching. Only to discover that the fabric I'm using for my mom's present (the Through a Mother's Eyes) is too small. The design *might* fit, but not with enough left over to mat and frame. So that's a waste. I have to get new fabric and start over. Really annoyed with myself. I thought it might be too small, but then thought that I had measured properly. Grr. So in spite I started working on my Teresa Wentzler "Egyptian Sampler," I bought the fabric several years ago, now, and they measured it and everything so I know that it should fit with room to spare. But still. Had fun working on the sampler, though, I almost have the upper left quarter Osiris done (well, what parts of him are in the upper left quarter ;) ).
Started to watch the movie "Sexy Beast" with Ben Kingsley in it- but couldn't finish. The character BK was playing seemed too over the top for my tastes. Personally, I woulda just shot him right after he arrived on the scene. So I gave up on it.
During study breaks the Beau and I watched "Donnie Darko" (he hadn't seen it) and it was good the second time around. He agreed with me about the facial expressions Donnie got. We also watched two episodes of "The Prisoner" which is a really enjoyable show- and quite the mind-trip.
Over all it was a slightly stressful weekend, and I'm really tired today- for some reason. Hopefully a workout when I get home will give me some energy.
