Round about 2:20 am last night I woke up because Kyle had barked. I was also thinking that I heard a knock on the door- but I couldn't be sure. Then there came another knock, and another Kyle bark. Well, more of a tapping than a knock. In any case, the husband was moving to answer the door- he's got an easier time getting there, what with me having to un-CPAP myself.

It was the cops. Someone thought it would be a fabulous idea to smash the back window of my husband's car.

Yeah... Hubby told me to go back to sleep, he would go outside to talk to the cops, etc. Sure, I was soooo able to just go back to sleep. He came back in- we talked a little more. Nothing was taken from his car- not even the golf clubs lying across the back seat. They just smashed the window and left. Hubby went out to clean up the area a bit, and turn his car around so it was backwards in the carport- hiding the damage.

It was a coincidence that cops were in the area. They were answering a noise complaint a couple buildings away- and I guess saw the car. I don't know, I'm fuzzy on those details- getting woken up in the middle of the night has that effect on me. I'm glad they were there though- it's possible that the person did intend to steal the golf clubs and then he saw the police car and it scared him off. Or maybe it was just a 'random act of idiocy' as the husband told the police officers (who found it rather funny). He car was the first in line for the carports (even though we moved two in from the outside edge) so maybe that's why it got hit. We don't know. We're not feuding with any of our neighbors (even the chick I got upset with for having her dog off leash seems cool with me now. And her dog is always on leash. ;) Besides, if she were that upset I would have thought she'd go for my car, not his.). Hubby isn't the sort to anger someone so much that they would retaliate in this way- and not realize that he was upsetting someone so much. So we really just don't know what motivated this.

Which of course bothers me. We've lived there almost 5 years, and this is really unusual for our neighborhood. We did have one guy whose car window got smashed- but it was determined that he did that himself, and it was three years ago.

This means I'm starting my Friday short on sleep, frustrated, and highly annoyed. This bodes well....

So I give you some dragons...

AM sorry to hear this
Probably random act of idiocy involving alcohol.
Such things are unusual but distressing

Thanks, and you're right- alcohol was probably involved. For all I know the guy was the one causing the noise and when he got kicked out (before the cops arrived) he was mad and looking to cause some sort of trouble.

This is why I don't keep anything with value visibly in the car. Stuff like that goes in the trunk if at all. One of the easiest ways for a desperate person to get money is to smash into cars in nicer neighborhoods, take whatever's there and drive off. Very low risk, very little effort and they usually get a solid pay off. Apartment complex parking lots are usually good hunting grounds because apartment dweller's primary cars--the cars in which they keep stuff--are more likely to be out in the open.

Normally we don't either. I guess we got a bit lax because our area is really low crime- and like I said, in the almost five years we've lived here there hasn't been anything like this.

What gets me though, is that if the golf clubs were the goal- they were stupid about it. Would have made a ton more sense to break the back door window and open the door to get them out- rather than the rear window... I dunno.

I'm really sorry to hear about the car. It's difficult to feel safe after something like that happens, isn't it?

BTW, I clicked your eggs/dragons.

It really is. Especially if it's just a 'random act of idiocy.' If it were theft, or revenge, well those things can be dealt with to make the situation safer. But randomness? Much more difficult.

And thanks. :) *hugs*

Oh crap :( I'm sorry that happened hon! *hugs* Too bad the cops didn't happen by in time to catch them red-handed.

That would have been even better! But, if nothing else, I'm glad there wasn't additional damage- especially if the cops did manage to scare the guy off. Because if the person was just planning to go up the row and break windows- than my car would have been next.

*hugs* Thanks. :)

No. Funny thing is, because of how broken my sleep was- when I got up this morning I wasn't really sure it had actually happened.

Sadly, it did.

I would like some resolution, but I doubt we're going to get it. On the plus side- the glass folks should be on their way now, so the car will be ready for hubby to take to work tonight.

Sorry to hear about your hubby's car. :(
That's a horrible thing to have happen.
I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't drunk hooligans. We had a window in one of our cars blown out with a pipe bomb once, just because it was easy for them to get to. They couldn't even see what happened from where they placed it, so it was just stupid mindless.

Hope your Friday got better!

Thanks. My Friday did get better, and the car window has already been replaced. Personally I had no idea that they could just come to you and replace your window where you were. Hubby did though. *laughs* So it's all fixed, and didn't cost too much (thank you insurance!).
