Uh oh... Octo- and not the mom
Thanks to
greyweirdo for the link.
Otto the octopus wreaks havoc
Key notes: "Otto had been annoyed by the bright light shining into his aquarium"
"juggling the hermit crabs" and "re-arranges his tank to make it suit his own taste better - much to the distress of his fellow tank inhabitants."
*laughs* We could all be in trouble...
Umm, further daily reading leads to:
Octopus floods Santa Monica Pier Aquarium
The mollusk diassembles a valve at the top of her tank, flooding the place with some 200 gallons of seawater.
This one is a girl.
She shouldn't be introduced to Otto. What I want to know is why his aquarium named him, but hers didn't name her?

Boredom in invertebrates... who knew? (they are invertebrates, aren't they? *must go look*)

Not all zoos name their animals. I think this may be so that the keepers continue to look at them as animals and not pets.

I can see wanting to keep the pet/animal separation. I can also see zoos naming them not so much for the keepers- but for visitors. To make them more than junst 'an octopus' it would be 'Otto' to the kids.
