Anne is NOT pronounced Annie!

I'm so very sick of a rather simple name being consistently pronounced wrong! Also, this only started as of a few years ago.

Anne with silent E is NOT new!

It's not Annie of Green Gables, Queen Annie Boleyn, Annie Hathaway, Princess Annie, or Annie Rice. It's ANNE! Argh!

I know just how you feel. It's so annoying.

I mean, I could see it if it was an odd name. In elementary school I know a girl name Kaija (kye-ah) and that was forever getting mispronounced. But Anne? Oi.

Yea, it's not like Anne is weird.

My daughter is René. She gets called "Rennie" and both she and I hate that.

Well sure, because if you wanted her to be called Rennie you would have named her that!

Really? People can't figure that out? Oh that is sad.

Really. *shakes head* Like I said, it is fairly new, which doesn't make any sense given Anne Hathaway, and Anne Rice, for example.

Who pronounces Anne as Annie anyway?

A great many people try. Most recently the pharmacist when I called in a refill.

I don't know of anyone named Anne that pronounces it Annie.

(though, for the record, my great-grandmother was Annie. But year, there was that i in there...)

And in related news, Julie is not pronounced Julia!

No! And Juliana is neither Julie nor Julia nor Julianne!

I know women named Jeanne who have the same complaint.

(I just deal with the "Nomi" is not "Naomi" issue.)

I actually know a Jeanne pronounced like Jeanie. While I generally agree that it should be obvious, there are enough trouble makers out there that have to be different. :)

I feel you! I get just as frustrated with the name Tabetha! They try to call me Ta-bee-tha. And a co-worker used to call me Tam-a-tha. Where'd the freaking M come from? o_0?

From: [identity profile] jadecat.livejournal.com
Tamatha? Heh... Apparently she borrowed it from another name. Random letters seem to get stolen and added elsewhere. Fun! Or not...

Do they know how your name is spelled and are still pronouncing it Annie? That's...weird as hell, lmao. xD I mean, I guess if I didn't know someone well and kept forgetting his/her name, it could get a little confusing (Jenn/Jenny), but if they see your spelling and still call you Annie, there are some odd issues at work here. :|

Yup, they know how it's spelled- which is usually where the problem lies. They see that 'e' at the end and think it MUST be pronounced. This morning I called in a medication refill and the pharmacist asked "Is this for Annie?" *sigh* "yes." It was too early in the day to argue. ;) Instead I rant on lj.

That's bizarre.

I can understand "Anne" being pronounced more like "Anna" if you were speaking to certain Europeans (Germans pronounce the ending vowel, but wouldn't say it as an eee sound). But Annie? That's dumb.

Anna I could almost get behind- especially if the speaker is foreign. But people with American accents? Oi.

I had a student whose name on the record was Anne, but she went by Annie. But she used the i!

As a nickname it's fine, I don't care for it much, but okay. As long as the i is there. ;)

I sometimes get Anney, which I like better, spelling wise. ;)

I always get Marie, Maria... it's funny considering they're replying to emails and it clearly says MARY on it.

But you, my dear, shall always be Anna Banana... well, to your father, but I keep hearing him calling you that for you to come to the phone. :) Ahhh.... good times... good times...

Anne Boleyn would probably had people killed for calling her "Annie."

Ah, if only I could... But then today that would mean not getting my Zomig. Then MORE people would have to die... Hmm.

Only Darth Vader as a child is Annie.

*shudder*

But when your name is Orenthal...you get all kinds of crap.

Sorry, I win. :D

*hugs*

From: [identity profile] jadecat.livejournal.com
*laughs and hugs* Yah but, your name lends itself to trouble. ;) Mine doesn't... So I win.

Though, I should let YOU win 'cause it's your birthday...
