I just called the pharmacy to have my migraine med filled (I had dropped off a scrip to be put on file). According to their computer check with my insurance- I can't get anymore Zomig until September 3rd!! WTF? The last time I got a prescription filled I got 6 pills, which according to doctor dosing is like 9 days, according to my insurance it's 14+ days...

I did get a letter from them a few weeks ago saying that they would allow 8 pills to be distributed at a time, but I didn't see that amount as the monthly amount- and that doesn't even correspond to dosing schedules! So the one medication that really works for me - I won't be able to get for two weeks? And even then it'll be EIGHT pills for the whole month?! No no no no... this will not work. Sure... they'll give me 30 darvocet, no problem- but zomig? Oooh no...

The only plus I can see at this moment- I have an appointment with my neurologist's office tonight.

I feel your pain. Really I do. I'm only allowed 9 Imitrex a month. Who knows why they do that. It certainly isn't right by the patient.

I can only think it's a money issue. But I HATE that it's noy my doctor who gets to decide- but some person at an insurance company who has never seen me!

Maybe your doctor will have some samples for you.

Would be nice, though they've said in the past that they don't tend to get many. I'll have to ask.

I've heard from the drug reps who visit the office building where I rent space that your insurance company is notorious for changing their formularies of what is and is not accepted.

One woman I know who worked for a neurologist's office said at one point they were changing them EVERY WEEK and the doctor's office had to call each week to see what was and was not allowed. She said, THEY even had problems getting a definitive list from the insurance company.

You can appeal their decision and probably win, but it is one HUGE hassle, done, IMHO, on purpose to both save money and thwart people from standing up for themselves.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this.

I wish someone could make a case that the insurance company's bureaucrats are practicing medicine without a license stick.

Your doctor has decided that you need 6 Zomig every 9 days. That should be the end of it.
