The fires in California are awful- and I wouldn't consider them anything to be joked about. I have heard that some of them had beginnings other than natural.

So the image of a man looking over his destroyed home- while SMOKING a pipe is just...

To me that clearly shows how self-destructive Americans can be- they look over their own destruction- and then continue the habits that caused it! (not to say that this man smoking this pipe caused any of the fires- I'm looking at it more symbolically.)

I'd link the actual photo- but it's one of several in a Yahoo slideshow- it's picture 33 of 632 though.

Greed isn't good. *makes note to self not to buy a house in anyplace with a fire cycle*

I wasn't trying to blame him- just the incongruity of the image just struck me.

Yeah, it's like the Philly firefighters who showed up to the fire out in our first apartment building. They were all chomping cigars and sucking on cigarettes as they pulled out their hoses and ladders.
