Content! But first...
Dec. 1st, 2005 10:49 amA Meme! C'mon, this is me- you expected anything else?
( Why yes, I am a Capricorn... )
In other news... spent much of last night napping. I've been staying up so I can see the DH for a bit when he comes home from work. This usually means that there aren't very many hours from the time we go to bed and when my alarm goes off. So I take naps when I get home from work to make up for it. This is sort of working. I'm not sure I should do this for very long though.
After napping I talked to the hubby for a bit and then it was time for a movie and floss winding. As some of you know, Jo-Ann's had a sale this past weekend. This involved a 5 for $1 floss sale (limit 30) so I got 30 and convinced the husband to buy 30 as well. I has since spent many happy hours carefully winding floss bobbins. Sure, I could probably wind them faster with one of those machiney gadgety things- but they're not nearly as fun, nor do they coddle my OCD nearly so well. Miracle of miracles, I've convinced Danger Boy!! that mommy does NOT need help winding floss bobbins. Now he just longingly watches me from one of the lazy boy chairs.
The movie last night was Virgin Suicides (James Woods, Kathleen Turner and Kirsten Dunst). Really interesting movie about a family with five daughters- all of whom commit suicide, starting with the youngest. The movie is told from the point of view of a young man who was a neighbor of the family- he and all his friends were rather in love with the Lisbon girls and tried to put together the details leading up to each's suicide. The narrator is Giovanni Ribisi- which I didn't know until I'd actually seen his name in the credits. Kirsten Dunst's character- Lux- is listed as being the oldest on the Netflix wrapper- but is really the 2nd youngest. Her main squeeze- Trip Fontaine- was played by Josh Hartnett. I spent most of the movie staring at him muttering "I know I know that guy... who is he??" and not getting it. Then I saw a name that actually made me skip a few chapters back just so I could verify. Yes, Ladies and Gentleman the must maligned Anakin Skywalker- aka Hayden Christiansen had a bit role in the movie. He did young and awkward quite well. ;) In further detail- the movie takes place, according to the writing on one of the opening scenes, 25 years ago in Michigan. Since the movie was released in 1999 that would make it about 1974 (If I've done my math correctly).
I had expected this would be a very depressing movie. It actually wasn't. What you're left with is not a terrible grieving- but a lack of understanding, the why behind the suicides. I don't think that's a spoiler as the narrator says it almost in those exact words as the first scenes are unfolding. It's still got me thinking, and a fwe of the details seem somewhat weird, but I enjoyed this movie. Although some of the story could have been a bit tighter, some bits didn't quite make sense- but then again part of the point seems to be that sometimes things don't make sense.
Overall an interesting evening. Did wake up to the alarm, but started to cuddle the husband and fell back asleep. Luckily I only overslept until 7:14 am, so with his help (feeding the cats, making me toast) I was able to get out the door on time.
Hmm, it's December 1. Should probably start thinking about actually purchasing Christmas gifts, huh? :)
