The Nelson household has a new member, Kyle. Kyle is a one year old lab/chow mix, and possibly the sweetest puppy boy ever. He can be seen here: http://tinyurl.com/r8efh (oh, focus on the picture on the left, it's more representative of him).

Isn't he cute?! He's a lover/snuggler. As of yet he has shown absolutely no interest in toys of any kind (save the one cat toy he pulled the feathers off of). We're thinking this may change as he gets used to being here- he was in the shelter for nearly a month. And we've already signed him up for basic obedience classes- with the hubby and I both participating. :)

In cat news- Sasha is instructing Kyle in his place in the household, and Leo is sticking to the high ground as he has no CLUE how to deal with this newcomer.

You know that my boy Alex is a Chow/Golden mix and every Chow mix I've met has been a sweetie. I got him when he was 14 months old and he's now 13. Best dog. You did well! :) More pics!

We had thought about a puppy- but at this stage we weren't sure if that would be a good match for our lives. When we met Kyle, it just seemed that he was the right dog. Great personality- a total lover, he will sit on your lap if you let him, and we had figured that a little older was likely to be better. I'm really glad we got him.

The cats, are not. *sighs* Still working on that one. Kyle just really wants to sniff them and get to know them and all, he has shown absolutely NO agression towards them- just curiosity. They however don't see it this way, and since he chases when they run... it's just not real great to be them right now. So we're working on it.

I'll post more pics as soon as the ones I've taken have been developed. Sadly, I am lacking in the whole 'digital camera' thing.

Thanks! :) We're actually taking him to the PetSmart classes (the PetSmart just opened up a few months ago). We met the instructor and she seems really neat- only using positive reinforcement, no choke or prong collars allowed, that sort of thing.

Though, depending on how that class goes- I may look into the Kennel Club- thanks. :)

Aww, congrats on the newest member of your family - he's adorable :) It's good to see that the other children are adjusting, even if Leo is uber unsure :) Obedience school is a very good plan - you will all appreciate it in the future!

Thank you. :) The cats are slowly working on it- Leo has come down from the highest bookshelves, which is progress. Kyle does have a slight scratch on his nose- delivered from Sasha, who is a lot braver than I had thought she would be. She's not so much afraid of him as pissed off that he's there. ;)

Obedience is a must- for all of us. Plus, as the trainer said, it's a good chance for us to bond as we didn't raise him from puppydom. He already knows 'sit' though, and will give you 'hugs' if you request them. :)

To me the two pictures look like different dogs! They're both Kyle though. When I saw them again I realized I had seen him on their website- but hadn't given him a second thought- being interested in Astaire (who I think is still up even though he's been adopted) and Meredith (who isn't on the site any longer as she was adopted on Friday). Then we met him- and that made all the difference. :)

Actually, that had crossed my mind- but I wasn't sure if it would be cool with you guys. The cats might like having a breather day too. ;)

He's pretty good with other dogs- so far as I've seen. The only one he kinda barked at/seemed annoyed by was a daschaund... *laughs* I don't know. He loved the little Boston Terrier we met (though the Boston was more interested in crawling in my lap than Kyle).

Oh, I've been meaning to e-mail you all- is there anyway we can switch game from the 15th to the 2nd? I've got a family thing that I forgot about. I'll write that e-mail (but I know DK doesn't check her mail all that often! ;) ) As for him getting acclimated, he's settling in really quickly- aside from being terribly curious about the cats.

S'allright, sweetpea. I appreciate the notice. That will make sure everyone gets notified in time. I'll speak to DK direfctly, since I'm not sure when she'll check her e-mail. I don't have JH's e-mail address either, but since I'm sure he'll call to whine at DK between now and game day, we'll get the message to him. ;)

Oh, and I'll ask about the possibility of bringing the puppy down.

Thanks! I really appreciate it. :) Yanno, I hadn't even thought about the face that Sammy is a doxie when I mentioned that Kyle doesn't like them... We just happened to run into one at PetSmart on Saturday and that's the only dog he's had an averse reaction to... (Oh and on Kyle's behalf, he's not terribly trained- but he knows sit and he's fully housebroken - for which there was much rejoicing. ;) )

Oh he LOVES cuddles! I was on the phone with the hubby last night, lounging on the couch, and Kyle insisted on joining me- half sprawled over me. :)
