Not feeling great. Didn't sleep much last night- my brain just wouldn't turn off. Tossed and turned so much I finished the night on the couch- wanted the hubby to get some sleep.
Today in the office it's musical coughs with all who is here (save for Mr. Boss) coughing in their own key. Mr. Boss doesn't have the couch but his arthiritis is acting up badly. I'm not sure who is better off...
Then I put in for two vacation days (actual paid vacation... how weird!) and find out Mrs. Boss is going to be in Seattle that week. Ugh. But after some negotiation with Mr. Boss she got him to agree to cover the phones so she and I can both be gone.
Although I'm not actually going anywhere for vacation- but the days off fall during the hubby's spring break from school, so it seemed like a good time to spend time together. But if it turned out I couldn't take those days it wouldn't be like a huge vacation plan was ruined.
The whole idea of paid time off is just weird though. ;)

Date: 2006-02-10 05:40 pm (UTC)Not going anywhere during vacation time sounds just devine to me. Just taking that time to rest .... you surely could use it. Just make sure to throw some fun things in there too. :)

Date: 2006-02-20 08:23 pm (UTC)No, we don't get a whole lot of time to spend together- but I like to joke that it keeps us from getting bored with each other. ;)
And thanks, I'm quite enjoying being married, and it was fun to go from 'step-mom' to Grandma in one month. Though we don't get to see nearly enough of his daughter and the baby.

Date: 2006-02-19 05:45 pm (UTC)To me, unpaid vacation only, sounds more like slavery than anything else. If you don't get paid on your vacation, you will never be able to afford a day off, which will eventually make you colapse out of exhaustion for sure.
In Seden, ALL employers have to allow their employees AT LEAST 25 days of paid vacation per year. It can vary slightly depending on the deal between the labour union and the employer. With a few weeks off in the summer, you have some time to "recharge your batteries" so that you can go back to work with new strength and energy when the vacation time is over. Of course, you can also save vacation days from one year to the next, but there is a limit to how many days you can save also.
Enjoy your free time with your hubby!

Date: 2006-02-21 08:49 pm (UTC)Plus, if you are permanently employed, the employer can't fire you only by clicking his/her fingers. If you have been working for the same company for more than two years, they have to give you three months notice. If you have worked for a shorter time, it's one month. Then, the longer you work, the longer notice they'll have to give you before you really have to quit. OTOH, it is also the same way the other way around, unless there are special circumstances that forces you to quit sooner, I think. And, of course, no firing negotiations can be done without the labour union being involved - if the employee is member of a union, that is, but most people here are.
Wanna move here? :)))

Date: 2006-02-22 09:41 pm (UTC)Yeah, take our labor and social laws and shove them in the face of your weird president, so that he can make USA the good and safe country of justice for all inhabitants it could be. :)

Date: 2006-02-22 10:12 pm (UTC)Next step would be to start the same type of social and labor systems as we have here with all the laws and insurances that are included. and if he doesn't do these things, I'll ... I'll ... call him a tyrannic and selfish terrorist, who can't think further than to his own nose tip. *g* I am so glad I am not an American. Amen. No offense meant. I might consider becoming an American at some point in the future, when you guys have a more sensible president. Will that ever happen?
