Good and Bad...
Dec. 10th, 2007 04:19 pmBad first... Dad is in the hospital. It's nothing serious, but still it's the reminder that someday I will get that call and it WILL be something serious. Especially if he doesn't start taking better care of himself!! *grrs* One thing that having medical people in the family is good for: when the doctor says "the initial scan showed pancreas inflamation, and then the other test showed 'sludge' in his gall bladder, but a duct (or something) open so many centimeters..." it's nice to look at the family member (in this case my mom or hubby) and say 'Wha?' Followed by an explanation. We haven't gone to see them- mostly because my mom said it wasn't necessary, plus given the type of guy my dad is- I don't think he would want us there for something like this. Plus he's on demerol and mostly sleeping. ;) So instead we wait.
Good news- Hubby took his final final today, and whipped its butt! He's now a nurse-graduate! :) His official AD-N will be conferred upon him on Friday, and he has to take the boards. But he's DONE WITH SCHOOL!!!
To give you an idea of this- he had to get an Associate Degree General in order to get the points to enter the nursing program. That took roughly two years. The nursing program took two years. So for just about the entire time we've been together he's been in school- and we've been planning for this time. Now it's here. It's amazing, and I can't stop smiling. I'm so incredibly proud of him. He's worked so hard for this (and to pat myself on the back- I put up with a lot of his ranting and raving and kept pushing him to keep going, and called bullshit when necessary. For which I've been thanked. ;) ) and from all reports, i.e. from the nurses he worked with in clinicals, he's going to make a great nurse.
(on a very weird note that just occurred to me, senior year of high school we had just found out that my (maternal) grandmother had a stroke and the decision was made not to prolong her life. (she had a living will, and too much of her brain had been wrecked by the stroke.) After getting the news and crying for some time, I found the envelope from U of M saying that I was accepted...)
