Weekend....
Oct. 22nd, 2007 04:03 pmIt was pretty much a laid-back, enjoy the pretty weather kind of weekend. Which was slightly amazing considering the tornadoes on Thursday night... Speaking of which, Hubby was laughing at me because I insisted on packing a backpack with stuff 'just in case.' Things like a bottle of water, a towel, and a cans of each dog and cat food seemed like a good idea. Given that we live in an apartment- it's not like we're going to the basement of our house- so we might need emergency supplies. I admit, some of the stuff I put in there was silly, but my thought was 'if I pack it, we won't have to use it.' And I was right, all the storms veered around us.
The researching "moving to Ireland" plan is going well. Though I'm getting conflicting information on whether or not the animals can be flown to Dublin or if they have to go through the UK. Little insight to me- I'm more concerned with how we're going to transport them to where ever we're staying rather than the paperwork needed to get them in (i.e. can they go on buses? how about taxis? How pet friendly IS Dublin?). I may work myself into basketcase levels... "We need 1,000 Euros to APPLY for a Green Card?" Owwie... But all things in good time. We get the info and we work towards it. We have a little time. I also called my vet today and they've had experience with animals going overseas, so that's a plus.
Hubby, Kyle, and I spent time at the dog park again. He got to play with Mya, a lovely Boxer. I think it's a toss up whether she's his favorite playmate or if Barack (the 140lb Newfoundland) is. Problem is Barack doesn't really play like Mya does. However, Kyle can run full tilt into Barack and have him not notice. I guess that's a plus. Kyle was following Barack (by the by, this is the same Newfie that introduced Kyle to swimming-by-accident...) and barking at him in a "C'mon play with me!" way, and getting between Barack and other dogs. When he tried to get between B and the beautiful Harlequin Great Dane- it was just funny. Here you have two HUGE dogs, and then leetle Kyle trying to separate them- You could see Kyle's back UNDER the Dane's belly! Not under Barack's, but that's a fur issue... ;) I give the boy props for trying... Mya on the other hand plays CHASE!!/tag really well and she's more willing to play with him. So it's all good. I was pleased that Barack's owners saw Kyle and commented that "Oh here's your buddy Barack!" and were happy to see us. Nice to know that Kyle has some fans out there and he's not seen as an annoying dog.
We were at the dog park for a bit on both Saturday and Sunday, as an aside, going to the dog park early in the day means we're actually up by 9 am on the weekends! This is pretty amazing. Sunday was also a dog event in Old Town Lansing part of the do1thing.com initiative. Something about disaster preparedness. We figured we could risk going with Kyle since he'd been at the dog park first. Basically- Kyle is great with other dogs off leash- not so good on. He'll start to bark and carry on if he sees another dog, eager to go say hello. If he is allowed to say hi- then he will snap and sound fierce when you try to separate the dogs... But we figured he would be tired enough to try. We got there and parked, and then walked up and down Old Town before actually going into the parking lot where the event was. My logic being that if we walked a little first it would be less 'new' to Kyle and thus he'd be calmer. This seemed to work a bit. When we got in and started walking around he was a little freaked, but was really good! He said hi to a few dogs, including this huge pit bull- who was a total doll, and said hello to Kyle very nicely.
The fun part- they had an agility course set up that you could take your dog through. They only let a few people in at a time, and had helpers to explain how to get your dog to go through things. Kyle did the jumps fine- after trying to go around them a few times. Was really good with the teeter-totter bit (to the surprise of the volunteers working there), not so good with the up-down "wall" thing (it looks like an upside down V), and when we got to the tunnel he just laid down- but we were able to get him through it. In all- he did all the things- even the weave poles- badly, but he did them. Fun for us- not so sure how much he liked it. ;) Too many new and different things. What really surprised me about the event- there were no water dishes around, and it was a really warm day... Luckily I had a tupperware container and a bottle of water in the car so Kyle could get a drink. Great weekend for Kyle, he spent most of Saturday and Sunday nights passed out. :)
The cats on the other hand... Leo was in FINE form over the weekend. He was talking quite a bit, and demanded that his daddy play with him. To the point of dragging The Best Cat Toy EVER! out to his daddy. The BCT is a plastic wand with a leopard spotted fleece ribbon that has feathers on the end. Leo's preferred part to play with currently is the plastic wand- cause he can bat it all over the place. Sasha was just cranky, then again that's not all that unusual...
In workland.. the bosses are away, Mrs. Boss's son needs to have his 30th surgery (and he's only 19 years old...), so they're in Baltimore (where the leg lengthening doctor works)- Mr. Boss will be back in a week Mrs. Boss will be working remotely as she needs to be there for a month (or perhaps more due to recent complications). So I actually have more to do. Which is SUCH a good thing. So I should go do them.
How's by you all? (oh, and would someone with non-lj contact knowledge please tell Tin we miss her?)
