But first...
Jan. 15th, 2007 09:53 amSo there will be a birthday/weekend post- although, have you ever had one of those moments where you mentally phrase parts of a post so much that you're actually surprised when you log in and it's not there?
Among other events of this weekend we got a call late Saturday night from my MIL letting us know that hubby's uncle Jim had passed away. He was 83 and had hernia surgery recently, then got an infection, so it wasn't completely out of the blue- but very sad.
I didn't know him very well- but what little I did know I really liked. Just this past summer hubby and I attended the 60th wedding anniversary party for Jim and his wife Ione (she's my MIL's sister). Yeah, they were married for 60 years- and happily, and so in love with each other, it was still so obvious after 60 years (and 6 kids) together. They got married when she was still in high school! (I believe it was between her junior and senior year) Apparently the school was fine with their marriage (it wasn't totally unheard of) but asked her to leave when they found out she was pregnant. She didn't end up finishing high school until much later- but she did finish. :) Jim was a very nice man, and welcomed me into the family with a smile. He will definitely be missed.
What's adding to the upset now is that the funeral is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon- now I don't like funerals, and that whole viewing thing creeps me the hell out- hubby will of course be going. I feel like I should go too, like I wrote, I barely knew Jim- but I did like him. But when I get to work I check and both my bosses have actually used their calendars (!) and both have appointments out of the office on Wednesday afternoon. Which means if I were to ask for the day off (and I would need all day as the funeral is in a city about 1-2 hours away and uit's scheduled for 2 pm), there wouldn't be anyone to cover the phones. This would be a problem. So I'm not sure what to do at this point- mention it and see if there's something that can be arranged, or what.
**EDIT: Talked to Mrs. Boss and she's going to see if she can reschedule her meeting so I can take some of the morning, and the afternoon off (would have to work until 10:30 or so). We'll see. **
