The Weekend, but first!
May. 22nd, 2006 03:24 pmInitially it was
padawan_helena that brought these folks to my attention, and then
wicked_wish provided the YouTube link... So I bring this to you! And to me as I want to listen to this clip as soon as I get home tonight!

Finnish blokes performing at Eurovision... According to Helena these 'gents' in monster garb were quite different from their earlier, flashier competitors. The Finnish blood in me is so proud. ;)
Now, the weekend.
Played Rifts on Saturday- was much the fun. Again playing a Battlecat (okay, who is surprised? If you are, pay attention! Jeeze...) but her personality and place on the 'team' is quite different. The group is military (mostly) with two civilian contractors- my character's role is to ensure that one of them- who goes by the name Bambi Russell- survives. That's it- Dr. Russell must survive- the rest of the team, eh. Kisa, the human/snow leopard gene spliced battlecat, is quite content with these orders (as in this particular world she's considered military equipment, not personnel). She's quite smart (these scores derived by die rolls and I did very well, and to my amusement she has twice the IQ of DH's fly boy character. tee hee) and damn strong- kind of a Zoe from "Fire Fly" if you will (minus Wash of course). She's so much fun!
Came home from that, hubby tried to nap- but the Leo really wanted his attention (yet one more way we can tell Leo is his cat and only tolerates me. ;) ). He went off to work and I stayed up waaaay too late playing CivII. Sunday, was up and around, napped briefly with the hubby. See, he came home and went to nap and when I went in to wake him he grumbled a bit and moved over without actually waking up. Apparently, in his sleepy state, he thought I was just trying to get more room on the bed, not wake him up. Seeing as how I was up too late, I just crawled in with him for an hour. :)
Then it was up and around, and Chinese food for dinner- and movie watching. We watched Whale Rider, which is absolutely beautiful, and amazing. So I bawled through varying parts- it's a beautiful movie. The main character- Paikea is really interesting to watch as she deals with her grandfather's clinging to old ideals, as she embodies what it is he's looking for. The problem is that she was simply born the 'wrong' gender. It's really quite moving, and a look at a culture that I'm not overly familiar with- the Maori. Definitely recommend.
Also saw two comedies The Thin Man from 1934 and Scaramouche from 1952. The Thin Man was so much fun! Nick and Nora Charles, played by William Powell and Myrna Loy, are in New York City on vacation, when he gets tangled and wrangled into investigating the disappearance of an old friend. He spends half the movie in varying states of sobriety, and the two have an incredible reparte that is a blast to watch.
Scaramouche isn't quite as much fun- it's terribly cheesy- set in France shortly before the revolution. It does however have the best sword duel in cinematic history (the duel in "Princess Bride" between Westley and Inigo coming in second) that lasted 6 minutes and used no stunt men. This alone does make it worth watching. It stars Stewart Granger (good guy), Mel Ferrer (bad guy), Eleanor Parker (good guy's lady love), and Janet Leigh (yes, from Psycho as the bad guy's fiance who is in love with the good guy). Confusing at time- but quite enjoyable.
That was pretty much the weekend... Too short as always. But we have a three day weekend coming up- and hubby actually has Sunday off! Wow. We're hoping to be able to go to Alma's Highland Fest (I dunno, never been) and see M, M's hubby and Baby B. :)
