Yup. Still around. Amazingly enough work has actually gotten busy. So my desk has much paperwork that gets processed. Somehow this translates to money, which means I get to keep getting paid- so understandably (I think) I pay more attention to work than LJ. ;)
So... updating from home- while watching TV. This can only mean one thing- the laptop still works. This makes me most happy. The plug for power is still loose, so must do something about that- it keeps flickering from battery to AC power so I have to fiddle with it.
Let's see- the weekend. Well Saturday started early. Went cross stitch shopping with some gal pals, notably
sarbah77,
losgunna,
royal_jester and
zoomcity (I think I heard that right?). Was most fun. Got a couple Mirabilia patterns that I had been lusting after, and one that initially didn't catch my fancy- until I saw it on the wall done in blue instead of cream. So now I want to see if I can figure out how to do it in green instead. :) Ooh... or maybe purple!
Came home and pretty much just spent the rest of the day relaxing with the hubby. We had talked about going to a cat show- but since the show was on Sunday too we decided to just go the next day. We had also talked about going to a movie- but likewise decided to simply wait on that.
Sunday we did indeed go to the cat show- and they had cat agility! Man that was so much fun to watch. Only a couple of the cats actually made it all the way through the course. We were reminded that for several of the cats this was the first time they had actually been in an agility 'ring' so it was to be expected that they wouldn't really get the idea. As one of the commentators pointed out- it's fun to watch the cat when they are running the course properly- but it's also a lot of fun to watch the handlers try to get the cat to do things right. ;) Several of the kitties tried to run the course in reverse. I thought they should get points for that. ;)
The most amazing of all the cats was this lil guy named Cole- he was a black poof ball and couldn't have been more than a year old. The person running Cole was also a youngin'- he couldn't have been more than 12 and likely younger. They actually managed to run the complete course in all of 15 seconds (in comparison the other closest time we saw was 45 seconds). Cole and kid were amazing (yeah, in typical fashion I remembered the cat's name but not the person's. :) ) and what I think really helped the kid was that he was so very excited and just ran the course. The adults were much more sedate and a didn't seem to get as excited about the whole thing as the kid did. The kid's excitement really seemed to encourage Cole.
This is why I think the Hubby has better luck playing with the cats than I do. He gets ridiculously excited and has absolutely no worries about looking foolish- and the cats go nuts! Me? I'm much more sedate and just have a different style. Although once, when dancing with Leo, he did get quite excited. Okay, I was dancing and he was attempting to get ahold of my slippers. It was still a lot of fun.
In non-cat news. I broke down and finally had to start my very first Mirabilia pattern. I've had the four Queens of the seasons (and on Saturday had to buy the Maidens of the Seasons) for a couple years now. I don't really remember when I bought them- but it was awhile ago. More recently I bought the fabric and some of the odds and ends for the Autumn Queen. So Sunday night I got it out and pulled the required floss into it's own box so I could start. Apparently at some point I fray-stayed the fabric- so it didn't even have any prep work needed! And away I went while the hubby was studying for an exam that he had today.
And back to cats. So there I am attempting to stitch and the hubby is sitting on the couch next to me studdying. Leo decided that it was most important that he get some cuddles. This is rare for him. So who does he pick to cuddle? Yup, me. The stitching had to be put down and the Leo snuggled, he ended up falling asleep on my lap- but in such a position that both my hands were occupied and thus I was still unable to stitch. Since he so rarely comes for cuddles I didn't want to kick him off my lap right away- and thus perhaps discouraging him from coming for cuddles in the future. So I sat and waited and petted him a bit. After a little while the hubby took him so I could stitch some more. Apparently this didn't sit well with Mr. Leo and he left to lie on the floor.
So that was pretty much the weekend- stitching and cats, with some quality spousal time as well. Pretty good weekend in my book. :) Today wasn't too bad either. Since the hubby had an exam this morning and no classes this afternoon we were able to have lunch together. Something that isn't as rare as I was afriad that it would be. We also got news that his financial aid had been approved- no money to us yet- but it should be on it's way. Given all the hassles we had in even getting it approved- this is so cool.
I also did the taxes tonight. Bleah, I hate taxes. I do like software that makes it easier. I've been a TurboTax user for a few years now. In the spirit of curiosity I filled out the program three ways- one married filing joint and then a filing separately return for both of us. Do to school and interest on student loans it made the most sense for us to file jointly. So did that. Annoys me though that we can't claim his tuition on the state tax because his college isn't one of the 6 or so listed. About halved our state return. *grump*
But anyway. That's all the news in this corner of the world. Hope ya'll are doing well. :) (Oh and I've had fun getting some new icons. :) )
