Apr. 28th, 2005 11:23 amFirst off, thanks to everyone who replied to my last post- I will comment there in a bit. I really do appreciate your thoughts and sympathy.
On a semi-related (well, it is about work...) note. Yesterday - since it was Administrative Professionals day- the caseworkers took their clerks (that's me) out to lunch at Clara's (former train station) and it was most yummy. Their menu is huge and has a lot of variety, there were a ton of things I would like to try. I'll have to go back with the Beau at some point.
Anywho, today the director and HR person are taking just 'The Girls' (ie clerks, no caseworkers) to lunch at Red Lobster. Yeah, they left a bit ago. As
mightyafrodite will understand, taking me to a seafood place is just not going to happen. When your allergist lets you know that shrimp would be a successful method of suicide ya start to think avoiding seafood might be a good idea. (Okay, shrimp was the worst but every single 'seafood' item they tested me for was positive to varying degrees.)
A few years back I went to a sea food place (Gandy Dancer) in Ann Arbor with boss and co-workers (I was coerced). I got a grilled chicken salad thingie. All afternoon my throat itched and I felt really off my game and just ill. So, my thought was 'kitchen cross contamination' or it was psychosomatic (an allergic reaction would give me the perfect excuse not to go to lunch with the Leprechaun).
Whatever the case may be- I have strictly avoided seafood places since then. So, while it would have been fun to go out with 'the Girls' at the same time- I don't want to risk an allergic reaction (that pesky 'no insurance' thing rearing it's ugly head, plus I don't carry an epi-pen with me- not sure it would work anyhow).
Instead I sit at my desk in the relatively quiet office calmly eating my lunch. This lunch starting late as we had two young women come in who took forever (though when called on lies did confess) to fill out their paperwork. However, their confessions only mean more work for me. Bleah.
Oh and there's a rebound headache coming my way. I wanna go home now.
