Ooooh, and update!
Apr. 25th, 2005 12:37 pmFirst off, Happy Birthday
losgunna!!! :) Have a great one!
Okay, now that I've gotten that over with (tee hee), what's the news? Well, the weekend was pretty tame. Which is fine with me.
Spent much time on the phone with the beau on Friday discussing an upcoming speech he needs to make for one of his classes. He's supposed to make an 'informative' speech, not a persuasive speech. Problem being his topic is something he wants to be more persuasive about than simply informative. He's chosen to explain the scientific method and how scientists derive theories. Mostly because it's curently sickening him to see all these right-wing religious nuts dismissing evolution because "it's JUST a theory" and thusly showing they have no idea how scientists get to the 'theory' stage. Talked him down a bit, his vehemence and some of his 'examples' were quite religious bashing- and that's not cool with me.
This debate between the Beau and myself isn't new. The problem is that he's not against relgiion- it's the people who can't seem to think for themselves, and the religious organizations they seem to belong to, that are the problem. On many levels I agree, I DON'T want "Intelligent Design" taught to my kids in a science class. There's absolutely NOTHING scientific about it. I don't deny that the universe could have been designed by an intelligent mind (AKA God) however, there's no scientific evidence, no proof, no nothing in the scientific world. I want my kids to learn science in a science class. There IS basis for evolution to be taught- it's a scientific theory.
I must also say that I'm very frightened by a lot of what the extreme right-wing is trying to do, and what the current government is already pushing on us. I'm also very frightened of the people you can show facts to and they will still claim the lie is true- or just as bad- don't care that they were lied to in the first place.
*breathes* Okay, going to a happy place...
In other events, spent Saturday night with friends in Laingsburg (quite the haul out there, given the condition of the dirt roads on the way there I'm REALLY glad my struts were fixed Thursday!). JF cooked for A, JD, K&M and the beau and myself. We were all a little leery as she claims she doesn't cook. However, the chicken fettuccini (sp?) that she made was quite tasty. It was a fun night of discussions about horror movies, car- animal accidents, defecation, vomit and so on... We're an odd crew. Because JD was there the puppies were locked up- but they were the first to leave so I got a to see the Shino-bear and Samwise for a few minutes. Shino was a bit dirty... apparently the boys got out the other day and while Sam (the not so wise) was running circles around a growing-cranky horse, Shino took it upon himself to roll in the paddock... He got a bath, but seems to still need one. Silly puppies.
Sunday was chill out day, watched movies, went grocery shopping, and was re-interested in Dynasty Warriors IV= the beau and I played for quite some time. Was much fun- though my wrists aren't happy today. Oh well. Got some more information on the upcoming wedding of the Beau's lil sister. Sounds like everything is falling in to place- now he just needs to get a tape of the song she wants him to sing (one he has memorized- he sang it at his mom's 2nd wedding, and at his dad's 2nd and one other I think...)
OH! On the marriage front- the beau and I now have an officiator! *huge sigh of relief* The newest sister-in-law's father is a retired judge, and she asked him if he would marry the beau and me, and he said he would be happy to! This is most cool. Now we just need to get all the other details settled on. Like, where and when (specifically). We're now looking at October 8th as a date (to do both in one day as opposed to having the wedding on one day and the reception a few days later. As my very logical mother pointed out- this could be hard for some out of town family members to manage... Sure Mom, be logical and make sense. :) So... I'll just have to keep you all informed.
Okay, lunch is almost over and I need to read more of my fl. Laters!
