As I mentioned (yesterday was it? wow...) the beau had secret plans for the two of us last night. These plans turned out to be the MSU/East Lansing stop of the Vote Dammit! tour- featuring Margaret Cho and Ani FiFranco. :)

I was most happy about the surprise. There were some troubles actually getting to the show (apparently there was a guy named Bruce who was the opening act, but as we came in part way through Margaret's part we kinda missed him).

I've seen Margaret Cho in person one other time, and have seen a couple of her video specials, and damn is that woman funny. I only wish I had memorized her spiel that started with conservatives being afraid of women's reproductive rights/sexuality going to 'What are they afraid of, this giant fuckwave going across the world?' to the idea of the pussy cyclone... Writing it out really takes all the humor out- or at the very least, I'm not doing it justice.

Ani DiFranco I've seen live twice before (or is it three times?) but the last time I saw her was about 8 or so years ago. As usual, the folkie absolutely rocked. She's somehow this really cute, powerful woman. someone who gets chuckles because she's quite silly, but who has very powerful words. The beau wasn't really familiar with her work- but knew that I liked her- and since she was touring with Ms. Cho- who he likes- he got us the tickets. Now I ask you, isn't that just a wonderful thing? :) (insert sappily in love hearts)

Okay, done swooning now.

Anyhow, in between the lovely ladies they had a 30 minute slide show. This annoyed some of the people in the crowd, but I thought it was pretty damn cool- and I learned a few things that I didn't know before. An example- I knew that women struggled long ang hard to get the right to vote- but what I didn't realize was the wording of the actual ammendment was the same wording from the original proposal- which was put forth **40** years before it was enacted. The first vote on it was beaten 34-16 with 25 members absent, or at least numbers similar to that. There was much more, of course, and overall I thought it was a pretty good presentation.

And... oh, look at the time. MUST sleep. So, will chat at you lovlies tomorrow.

If you live in the US and are over 18 get out there and VOTE DAMMIT! I don't care what party you vote for on November 2nd (okay, I do, but that's what being in a democracy is all about- you get to make your choices, I just don't think you should vote for a part that wants to take away your choices... anyhow)

just get out there and VOTE!!
