Ah, the weekend, as always - too brief. :)
Friday night I headed to the house, and the Beau was already there when I arrived. This is always nice. So, we played The Game for a lil while before heading out for din-din and then shopping for goodies to have at the bbq the next day. I had planned to make my mother's recipe potato salad and there were ingredients we still needed.
Came back home to find BE was already boiling the potatos. Brief confusion ensues, Anne got a little grumpy (something along the lines of 'if I'm say I'm going to do something, why won't you let me do it!?' and -to the beau- 'Now do you see why I don't cook around here?') but soon got over it and then went ahead and made the potato salad. Turned out pretty good, I think, given that it was my first time making it without mom being there to supervise. Quite proud of myself really.
The next morning started with a political conversation with the Beau - when it was much too early for one. Yes, the world is in chaos right now, yes 80% of the population is too stupid to be able to look beyond their mundane lives at the bigger picture, yes 1% of the population has all the money, yes Republicans are bad. Yet I maintain that people are not evil, so get asked what is evil? Yah... that conversation probably should have waited until we'd both had out coffee (which in my case is actually Diet Pepsi).
So, preparations were continued for the great Kill It -n- Grill It! (second... umm kinda annual) Noon arrived, the point at which DK thought people would be arriving. This seemed awfully early to me, I was thinking that it was more likely for people to arrive around 2 (and it proved to be so). Beau and I indulged in The Game (after BE was done) and thusly people began arriving.
Then was the required 'socializing' which used to be so much easier for me. These days I find it rather draining- and as others have described- want to "turtle" for a little while. But I perservered, or something. Eventually heading up because it got chilly and I needed socks. In the meantime though I had much much fun talking comics/movies based on comics/etc., with
gamerngeek and
cyriael. :) What can I say, I have a BA in history, most history interests me, including comic book character history. (heck,
mightyafrodite and I watched a show on the History channel about comics (and man Wonder Woman was such a BDSM ho... ;) )
Apparently my Sasha, who was locked up for the duration- less temptation to escape that way- got fed dinner twice. Once, by yours truly, the second by
mightyafrodite and company, who were being helpful. I wish I had known small ones were going to be in my room- I would have made sure it was presentable. Or, if Mighty had inquired in advance, before just letting small ones into my room, I would have brought the kitty out for them to see. (who knows what potential evil lurks in the Cat's room? ) Ah well, who needs a private inner sanctum anyhow?
So the day wore on and people drifted away, as they are wont to do. The evening ended with yet another political debate- this time about healthcare with BE. Which reminds me, I need to find out who s in charge of Northern Trust, and find out if they're a big time Republican or not... just not enough time in the day (they actually want me to work while I'm on work's dime! Tsk.) I also did get to have a side conversation about America's youth and their bizarrely overinflated sense of entitlement, with one of the remaining guests (one of DK's friends from Delta College).
Hmm, I'm not so sure it's just America's youth though... seems a lot of people all of the world thinks that the world owes them something simply because they're here. "Wow, you had the good grace to be BORN!? Damn, okay, here's your house, car, credit line. Gee thanks SO much for being Born and Alive! Now, let me remove any hardship and annoyance from your path, okay?"
Was supposed to go to Zimmer in the am, but had gotten my week's confused, I thought this past weekend was next weekend- when I will be out of town. I told Ashley we wouldn't be there, and forgot to tell her that I was an idiot and that we *would* be there. As a result, and after a conversation with the Beau, we decided sleep was worth more at this point (and I wanted 1 day out of the week when I didn't have to wake up due to an alarm clock.
About 12:45pm on Sunday waking up occurred... only about 13 hours after falling asleep. Guess I was more tired than I thought. Felt really good to sleep that long though, I've been short-changing myself for awhile now.
Made breakfast(!) which consisted of eggs scrambled with little bits of broccoli and onion, and ate that with toast (wheat with grape jelly, yum!). Then while waiting for a free computer line played The Game with The Beau. Eventually we were ready to head out to Bed Bath & Beyond to exchange the trash can we bought for the apartment (it was one of those 'put it under the counter' jobbies that, heh silly us- we forgot to measure- didn't fit under the actual counter). Ended up buying a new trash can, liners, and a dish drying rack and got $6 back. Not bad in my book.
Then it was back home, grab one ore coupon, and head out to Linens-n-Things. Not my usual store, but it had some nice things. Including a nifty mat that we will be using in the bathroom (most colorful! almost gaudy really, almost. ;) ). Got many things we needed for the place, most especially dish towels - which is the main reason we went there. Closing time was announced and we were on our way out. After paying, but right before we left I saw THEM!
'Them' are playing cards that are kinda oblong with CATS! on them. Apparently there are different cat breeds on the cards. I WANT THEM! So much so that the Beau, though I think he was either just joking or humoring me- wanted to know if I needed to get back into line to get the cards. Sadly, I said no, they were closing and probably wouldn't apprciate it.
But I want them! (insert sense of entitlement) Want them! Want them! Want them!
Okay, I feel better now. :)
So yeah, shopped for fun stuff, played more of The Game, and then the Beau went back to Haslett. Played MORE of The Game (addict? Where? I do admit though, it was really cute when Girl of
dadandgirl wanted to play. Unfortunately her timing was off- it was time for them to be getting home) and then went to bed.
This of course leads up today. Which, over all, hasn't been bad. Went to Subway for lunch with a co-worker, TM wasn't here. :( But I'm having an okay kind of day.
How're you?
