Told
frawg_angel that I would post an update, and then I forgot... so here we go.
Last Friday, after a board meeting that went on for WAY too long, I drove up to Haslett to meet the Beau at Schuler's Books. See, they were open at the time, AND I had no idea how to find the apartment (I knew where the complex was, but since it was dark the Beau didn't want me to spend most of the evening searching aimlessly). Schulers Books, much like the name implies, has BOOKS! Yay! Even though I didn't have time to really shop, or better still, money to actually buy all the books I wanted. *pout*
So anyway, next comes dinner. We head off to ye olde Steak-n-Shake. Way back in the days when the Beau and I started dating we visited the Okemos branch Steak-n-Shake, and it was good. Later, we went to Ypsi and Lansing proper Steak-n-Shakes... and they were bad. The only good Steak-n-Shake is apparently in Okemos. Is good that the new apartment is close by.
Okies, so afterwards we head to the new apartment. And it was good.
I liked the place right away. Walk in the front door and the living room is to the right-ish, there's a half-wall ledge directly in front of you (perfect for setting keys and mail on) and a coat closet to the left. Beyond the ledge is the dining area with the kitchen just past that.
Here's the funky part, the second bedroom/den wall makes up a wall in the living room. However, this wall is only a partial wall, 1/3 of the wall is wall, this 1/3 wall hides a set of sliding glass doors that can be pulled out to make the den and living room into two separate rooms, or open for one larger room. There are blinds as well that can be closed for privacy. Beau was worried I wouldn't like this feature, but I think it's groovy!
Down the hall was bathroom and master bedroom. Good sized bedroom with a walk-in closet! Oh how I've missed my walk-in closet these past few months! Beau already has his clothing in the closet- and that takes up about 1/4 of the space... I get the rest!
Ah yes... is much good. Oh, and the apartment is just about 1,000 sq ft- I've seen smaller houses! We're on the third floor on the end, so no one above us, and only neighbors on one side (and downstairs). I like the fact that our room is on the end, not sharing any walls, quieter and provides more privacy that way.
Last weekend Beau and I had to be back in Ann Arbor so while we got shopping done and bought things for the new place we didn't have a chance to do anything with the supplies. So last night I go back up to Haslett to see the Beau and put some thigns where I want them. I quite merrily began to put the kitchen in order. Was slightly scary how much fun I had doing this. Usually domestic kitchen tasks scare me away. That and the vast majority of the time I have no idea where anything is because when I've moved into a place I wasn't the one who set up the kitchen.
Also, one of the Beau's co-workers has a spare dining room set just taking up space- so he's offered it to us. For free! Yay free! Free table and chairs (Arnie- co-worker- wasn't sure how many there were, thinking there might be 6, but it could be 4. Either works fine by me!) So we'll have something to put in the dining area! Oh, and Beau liked the pictures that TM gave us, and agrees with me that they'll work wonderfully well in the dining area.
There's more, but I'll babble about that later. I'm at work and should actually work.
It's all starting to come together, and I couldn't be happier! (well, I can think of one thing that would add to my happy factor, but that'll come in time. :) )
