Okay, so here's the deal. I started working for this company back in August (coming through a temp company). I find that I really enjoy working here- the work is kinda interesting, and the co-workers are great.
Last week the temps (from the other temp company that has people here) all get called into a meeting. The Angel of Death (as we call their rep since every time he shows up someone disappears forever) tells them that the company will be laying off the majority of the temps. When those temps leave the meeting of course they go ahead and tell all of the rest of us what they were told. We all start to worry and fret. Same day the big boss of our area calls everyone in for a meeting. According to him the people in our department will not be getting laid off quite so soon as the people in other departments. You see, our area is really busy still while some of the other groups aren't.
A few days after that meeting we lost a temp. Now I, having worked with her, though she was fired for just being incompetent (she really was). That was Friday, Monday we had off because it was a bank holiday. Tuesday we lost another one. We all began to worry all over again. The two of them shared a 'horseshoe cube' with me. Basically they had two cubes next to each other and took out the middle divider. So now I have this huge horseshoe cube all to myself.
One of my friends here went and asked our supervisor what was going on- and she said that while she couldn't go into much detail that all of the temps' jobs were on the chopping block. So what was it again that the Big Boss said about us NOT getting laid off? The only thing I can figure is that the Big Boss didn't mean my little group, but the larger group in the other room. Yeah, reassuring that.
So now I'm looking at being laid off. Better than being fired I suppose. I just think that I would feel somewhat better if I had an idea of how long I have left here. I'm really not looking forward to being unemployed again. Really not. This morning co-worker friend TM tells me that she overhead the bosses talking last night, they apparently forgot she works til 5:30 (oh yeah, and they cut out all over time, and we have to take a lunch break as opposed to getting paid for working through lunch- hence my having time to talk to all of you.). They were discussing the temps and from what she heard it sounds like we'll all be gone within the next two weeks. Though she also said that she wasn't sure if that's precisely what they said.
Aggravating much? The axe could drop any time- and that makes working just a little bit of a challenge.
