jadecat: (Nano Where Characters Go)
I have been going through my NaNo buddy list and have removed a bunch of people. If I've removed you please know that it's not because I don't like you anymore. I do, I just don't know if you're doing NaNo this year or not. Or in a few cases it's because I've got someone on my list and I've forgotten who they are (Nano name not corresponding to real name or LJ name, something like that).

On the other hand, if you ARE participating in NaNo and would like to be buddies- feel free to add me- TheJadeCat (tough to remember that I'm jadecat on lj, I understand. ;) ). If you do, please comment here so that I know who you are. :)

Happy NaNo-ing!!

Just got home from my work's Christmas Party, this after having had the NaNo TGIO party. Given the day I had Friday, I wasn't exactly looking forward to the work party.

First though- the NaNo party, was fun. There were a few people there that I hadn't talked to before, which was cool. Also there seems to be more interest in continuing to have a writing group, as well as more critique and less social club. Though the meeting and gabbing has been a LOT of fun, I would like to get more constructive writing stuff done.

The work party was more fun than I thought it would be. Mrs. Boss hired a murder mystery couple to come in and lead us. The hubby was cast as an actor who was pretending to be a doctor (the bit about him not being a doctor wasn't known to even him right away). His first few goals were to write as many prescriptions as possible, and second to flirt with all the women. He did a really good job with his character, and got their actor of the night award. I was cast as the assistant to the murder victim's son, former assistant to the murder victim as well. I was of course in love with my boss. My character's goals were fun, and I managed to accomplish all of them. At one point I was supposed to try to get three people to sign my petition to get my boss listed as on of People's 50 Sexiest People. I succeeded in getting four to sign. *laughs* And in the end I was pretty convinced I was the murderer. And I was right! A few people thought I was the killer, but not strongly enough to write it on their sheet. Sadly, I let my group go with the majority view and we listed someone else too. A well. It turned out to be a lot of fun.

One of the guys at our table was a klepto, and he was actually stealing my hubby's silverware. Even going so far as to ask the wait staff to bring him some more- just so he could eat. He was going around the room and no one noticed him taking silverware from various people- he amassed quite the collection! We later found out the wait staff were talking about him, and rather confused as to what he was doing...

So while I was dreading this party, it came off pretty well. Though if we hadn't had roles to play, it may have been different. Oh, and per usual I was in charge of getting the bosses' present, and since many of the guys aren't in the office at the same time I was- I had to buy the present in advance and then hope they got me their portion. Wonder of wonders, by the end of the night I had everybody's contribution! I was stunned.

All in all a pretty good day. Which wasn't what I was expecting...

So... last night was a NaNo-Write in. I got to Schuler's at just about 7pm, which I had lsited as being the start time. It was lucky I was there on time since I had my last PT appointment at 6 pm. I get there, and rearranged the tables, with the manager's permission. Then ordered dinner, sat and waited... got my food, and waited. I was beginning to feel very self-conscious when [livejournal.com profile] reynai showed up. Little while later [livejournal.com profile] lordling showed up, so I didn't feel so bad reserving space for 10 people. (three others came later, including [livejournal.com profile] kindachang )

It was a very successful chat-in, not so successful write in. Did NOT get many words in yesterday. Will have to remedy this. At least we have the loooooong write in tomorrow at the Internets Cafe, that should really help.

Hmm, I just got my 'daily Chinese horoscope e-mailed- my horoscope for today? " "

Is that bad?

Involved many, many NaNo words. Friday was the kick off party- and was much fun, though I have hoped to have more people, and I was fighting a nasty migraine most of the night. Things got worse when I got home. :(

Saturday, much writing. Sunday, much writing- this time [livejournal.com profile] lazycatsteve and I were joined at our home by [livejournal.com profile] zen_kitty and [livejournal.com profile] donuthunter. That was a lot of fun. :) We very rarely have people over, so the animals didn't quite know what to make of it at first. *laughs* But eventually Kyle settled down, and we sat around talking, laughing, and even doing some writing. By the end of the evening, however, my wrists were threatening to walk off on their own if I didn't give them a chance to rest! I am very proud of my hubby for writing as well. So far am loving his story!

See: Many words

Still not quite feeling 100% and I don't know what's up with that. :(

Oh, I did find a whole bunch of people from elementary school on Facebook. Including the guy I had a HUGE crush on for I think the entirety of my time there. I sent him a friends request- which he has already accepted. :) So not only do I find him, but I see that he's in LA. I dig a bit deeper and it seems he's an actor. This leads me to check IMBD- and he's got a profile! He's been working bit roles for the last 10 years, including an episode of Gilmore Girls! He's cute too. *laughs* It just amazes me that someone I went to elementary school is living in LaLa land as a working actor! He was always the star of our school plays though...

In other news, there's not much other news. Just back at work, and feeling sorry for my poor Claire character. The story just started and already she's having a bad couple of days.

Hey, look- dragons!
Firstly- an as-yet-unamed MALE Red Sox Dorkface! :) It's taken me way too long to get a red male dragon- and this one is thanks to [livejournal.com profile] zen_kitty! :)

Last night was a strange mix of things... Hubby was at work, so it was just the animals and me. Kyle and I had our first walk of the night with rain sprinkling down, but missed the later downpour. I ordered pizza because I just didn't want to fuss with food, and didn't want to actually go anywhere. Plus side- the breadsticks were good, negative- the pizza was the worst I think I've ever tried to eat. I managed a few little bits and then just threw the rest away. This led me to deciding that if I was going to throw some trash out- I might as well bag up the rest. But wait, there were some coffee grounds by the trash- so that had to be vacuumed... Well, while I have the vacuum going I might as well do a quick job around the apartment... look, there's some dust on the headboard, might as well vacuum that. Oh, and the stuffed animals on the headboard are dusty too, should vacuum those... and so on and so forth.

The apartment is cleaner though. :)

Secondly, I was watching 'The L Word' last night, I'm on season 1, watching for the first time. Now, there are a lot of things the show gets really right- so when they mess up on something really simple, it drives me nuts. Example- Tina is pregnant, a few episodes ago they had a bit about her doing this ritual thing because the soul enters the fetus at 13 weeks (according to some philosophy). Okay fine, in the episode after her miscarriage she mentions that she was only 12 weeks along. Huh wha? Then, the big one- she says that they had just found out that they were having a boy. Nope, sorry, at 12 weeks there's no way a doctor can tell if it's a boy or a girl. Off the top of my head I think 18 weeks is the earliest you *might* have a chance to tell. Something that's really easy to find out- so the fact that the writers didn't bother with that bit of research? Annoying!

Followed that with "Birds of Prey" knowing I wouldn't have that much time to watch. Got to a point where everyone was happy- so I turned it off. I know it was about to all go downhill, and didn't want to deal with it.

Then there was sleep attempts. At first I just couldn't fall asleep. So I began mentally plotting some of my NaNo story... Which actually went really well. Finally was able to sleep. Then I couldn't stay there (really bad acid reflux at one point). Then there was the nightmare... with hubby helping my save myself, which was very cool. All in all a bad night for sleeping. I think I'll go home at lunch and take a 20 minute nap... that'll help.

But things are okay.

Hey look, dragons!

*screams and runs around in a circle*

I DID IT!! 50,196 words as of 10 pm tonight!!

I DID IT!!!!
jadecat: (Myrna Loy- Oh Really?)
Oi... very, very tired this morning. Didn't sleep well at all last night- either couldn't fall asleep, or couldn't stay asleep. It didn't help that I was dreaming about being at a funeral for a man (the dream me's stepfather I think) and his nephew (who was just a little kid) so I woke up in near tears. The main jist of it that I got was that the man wasn't well liked by his kids- but when at the funeral they were forced to remember that he wasn't solely a bad guy. This happened after a meet up at some fast food type restaurant where we (the person I was with and myself) ran into a senator running for reelection (we didn't like him). This seemed to be a combination of a couple things- a we (hubby and I) did get a phone message last night from 'Rogers for Congress' who we don't like, and Mrs. Boss's dad died yesterday afternoon (emphysema).

Today was my turn to get up with Kyle, and I grumped to the husband about having had a bad dream (not a nightmare, just a bad dream). First thing he wants to know is if I want to tell him about it- when I grumped about not having enough time, had to walk the pooch after all- he reminded me that it was just a dream and not prophetic. I had to agree- as I don't have a stepfather with resentful teenagers (a son and daughter). I'll tell him about it when I go home for lunch- he was actually able to sleep in until just before I went to work. I talked him into picking up Jimmy Johns for lunch- since I was grumpy and had a bad dream. ;)

So as weird as the it may sound- I'm now actually glad I had the dream, as bad as it was, since I now have a plot concept for my little were-jag. This is good since NaNo starts tomorrow. ;)

Speaking of- last night was the meet-up, and it was good. :) I got there a little late, and spent some time driving around confusedly. See, there is street parking in that area as the coffee shop didn't have it's own lot. However, there is a city lot behind it- except when I drove by it the lot was full of emergency vehicles all lit up... Yeah, I did eventually find parking pretty close to the place. The people were all really nice, and seem to be a fun group. While doing introductions it became quite clear that fantasy was the preferred genre. Later when anyone new showed up we all wanted to know if they were writing fantasy, and if not we tried to convince them to do so. *laughs* There will be weekly 'write-ins' that I think I'll attend, at least one or two.

So- a poll, which I've sorta done once already- but now I have new people to ask, and a poor memory. ;)

[Poll #857263]

In other news- still very tired. But I have co-workers actually in the office so no crawling under the desk and napping for me. :(
