non-Meme

So... I'm around, honest. I've even commented to a few people's posts here and there.

I'm getting very good at intending to post, half composing entries in my head... and there they stay. Dunno why. In lieu of a deep, contemplative post- I bring you a 'it was funny to me...'

As has been posted about before- hubby and I don't have cable. We have Netflix.

The first disk of the British show "Life on Mars" arrives. We watch, it's fun. Premise (for those who don't know) is that a Detective from 2006 (I think?) gets hit by a car and wakes up in 1973! He's a detective there as well (though down a rank I think) and has to figure out what's going on.

At one point he's talking to a woman, telling her about how he's in the past and saying he's not a time traveler. I burst out laughing.

"Yes you are, you're a Time Lord! Go by the name/title Master."

Makes me wonder if he's got a silver pocket watch that he pays little attention to... *giggles*

Hubby is enjoying watching the way they've captured the 70s, the attitude, clothes, etc. Not to mention just being kind of amazed at how far things have come, and so quickly. Oh, and the big shocker- how they've managed to find GOOD music from the era. ;) See, he was 15 in 1973, and remembers a lot of this stuff. Me? not born until 75, so I don't remember much. I enjoy pointing this out to him. *laughs*

TV

So I'm watching Season 2 of Supernatural (why yes, I am a bit behind, why do you ask?) and there was a bit that just had me giggling. Not entirely sure why, but why pick it apart?

Dean and Sam are driving, Dean is teasing Sam about his fear of clowns (oh, this is episode 2 of that season). Sam quips back about Dean's fear of planes.

"Hey, planes crash!"

Sam gestures with papers, "And apparently clowns kill!"

Makes me laugh.

Glee- finally got around to watching the first three episodes. Not sure what I think of it. I didn't immediately fall in love with it. I'm having trouble really liking any of the characters very much. The lead teacher Will is okay, as is Emma, the rest? Eh, I dunno. I don't find the show funny so much as just sad, which I suppose high school can be.

I would also like to know if it's more of a general trend or is it mostly because I don't watch a lot of TV- but- Are ALL blondes bitchy and/or dumb? Every single 'bad' female character on Glee is blond (by nature or not, it doesn't matter). Same thing with Vampire Diaries (per the first episode or two).

This trend, if it is one, seriously pisses me off. Something like that shouldn't be shorthand for personality. I'm not blonde currently, thanks to Loreal, but I was growing up. While I had my moments, I wasn't either bitchy or dumb. It's annoying to see "oh hey, blonde girl on the screen - what do we think? Evil bitch or dumber than a post?" and have those as the only options. Equally annoying is the "brunettes are never as pretty as blondes" corollary.

A general peeve that is very clearly highlighted (heh) in Glee. I'll probably not let that alone deter me from watching. As a plus- I like the actress who has the role of Cheer coach, as well as the Actress who plays Emma.

There ya have it.

Vampire Diaries

Thoughts while watching the pilot for The Vampire Diaries... keep in mind this is coming from someone who read the original trilogy (+1!) when they were first published in the early 90s...

Cut just 'cause )

Birds of Prey

The TV show from a couple years ago... I'm just getting around to watching it- thanks to Netflix. Anyone else know it?

Okay, you know that opening blather, going on about Batman and his one true love Catwoman, with the Alfred voiceover- at the end he says "This is Alfred Pennyworth..." I keep expecting him to follow that with "And I approve this message."

Think I've seen too many political commercials?

(Oh, and incidentally- I think Mia Sara's 'Dr. Charlene Quinzel' is quite possibly my favorite character on the show.)
