Well Hello then! I'm back from my holiday and I wish I could say I was refreshed and all that...
Lessee, last Thursday was the great Turkey Day for many of us in the States. As I wrote this usually involves a trip to my parents or the DH's. However, since he had to work we decided to have dinner at home for just the two of us. A full Thanksgiving turkey dinner with all the trimmings for two people... It's a good thing I planned for us to eat at 1 pm (he had to leave for work at 3:20) so when we actually sat down at 2 pm all was fine... Except I missed that whole 'bake the pumpkin pie and then let it cool for 2 hours before serving' thing. So we had desert when he got home at 12:30 am. :) The turkey the office provided was FANTABULOUS! Ohmigod GOOD! And the extra stuff we made turned out well too. ;)
I had considered going to my folks after that, but the weather was not promising. That and when I called my mom she said that Grandpa had to be back at 5 and J&M were likely leaving soon... so I just stitched and watched TV instead of traveling anywhere. Friday was supposed to be much of the same, but we were awoken (too early it seemed) by friend PJ who wanted Hippie Hash. So we pulled ourselves together and headed off to the Fleetwood Diner so PJ could have his Hippie Hash and company as well. In the course of conversation it came up that the DH and I had not seen Harry Potter. J, PJ's wife claimed not to have seen it either... yeah, we believed her. M, PJ's younger brother- really didn't care. He told us Harry died in this one. Went home, DH went to work and I played The Game for the first time in a few weeks. Continuing with creating girls who looked very weak but kicked ass. It's a theme.
When the DH comes home he had some bad news. Apparently Shino, PJ and J's dog, had a seizure a week or so ago. Something got miswired in his head as a result- so it's been surmised. On Thanksgiving- the Akita that was so very, very good with children, attacked PJ's young nephew (I think the lil boy is about 3 or 4) and bit him on the head. The little boy will be all right, though he had to go to the ER for stitches. However, Shino's 180 in behavior, and the general unpredictableness, led to them having to put him down on Friday. I feel so badly for them, I know how much both PJ and J adored that dog. He couldn't have been more than 4 years old or so, and very devoted to J- which meant a lot to PJ since he's living out of state and she's here. Shino could be male dog agressive- he needed to be alpha, but was really good with both cats and kids prior to the seizure. J once told a story of all these kids coming from somewhere (I think she was picking her much younger sister up from school) and practically throwing themselves at Shino- hugging him and tugging on his ears and initially J was concerned. Then she saw Shino's eyes glaze over with pleasure and he was just calm and adoring the attention. So to go from that behavior to biting the little boy... It's like it wasn't even the same dog. I admit, I cried when I found out.
( Here's the Shino-bear )
So add that to really weird, disturbing dreams- and all was not right in my world the next morning. The DH made a very poorly timed comment that just added to everything else. So when he was on the phone with PJ talking about plans for lunch and then the movie- turning to ask me about going I just lost it- bawled my fool head off. DH got off the phone and we talked for a few. The main thing was just bad timing and my need to get some caffeine into me and to simply relax for a little while. In the end we did end up going to lunch with PJ, J, PJ's second wife E (long running joke that would take waaaaay too long to explain), and PJ's brother M. Lunch was fun and I much enjoyed Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Though I was shocked that Harry didn't die. ;) The bit with the dragons bothered me, but I must say I love the dragon designs they used. J and PJ didn't seem to want to talk about Shino- so we didn't.
After the movie we convinced PJ and J (as for the others E wanted to go home- she's not a night owl and M had other plans) to come by our place. That led to an evening of Midori Sours (yum!) and the Game Apples to Apples. Apparently there is a certain number of green cards one must have to declare victory, but we kept playing until we got bored. Which took several hours.
Sunday was some running around. Got the sis-in-law's Christmas present, got a few things from World Market and Rite Aid, AND! Headed to Jo-Ann's for their floss sale. The limit was 30 ( at 5 for $1 ) so I grabbed 30 and then convinced the hubby to spring for another 30- which he was very willing to do. This way I now have many bobbins to wind- and thus let my OCD nature out and happily wind (carefully! Must lay neatly on bobbin!!!!) floss and then organize my floss boxes. This should lead to a calmer and less fretful Anne. After having bad/disturbing dreams all weekend (including last night) I would like calmer and less fretful.
Overall having 4 days off was very nice. I just wish I could have had a couple more, and more time to spend with the hubby. Maybe someday we won't be a 'mostly' weekend couple. Would be a nice change.
Hope you all are well.
